Civic Engagement Campaign and Get out the Vote (GOTV)
Our civic engagement program focuses on voter education and registration, reaching residents directly and with nonpartisan voting information in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese. We consider it vital to engage those who have been disenfranchised and marginalized in the past. We register and educate voters in Marin City, the Canal Neighborhood, and South Novato, communities that historically have low voter-turnout and a high number of immigrants and people of color.
For the past 15 years, Marin Grassroots has been working to Get Out the Vote (GOTV) under our Civic Engagement Initiative. Civic engagement is a presiding force in having one’s voice heard, so a key part of our policy advocacy includes GOTV, electoral forums, voter registration and education activities, to ensure that every resident, regardless of residency status, can participate in democracy and public discourse. In 2012, we partnered with more that 15 organizations and 20 volunteers, including the participants in this year’s EVLA, to facilitate the registration of 583 voters and contact 3,803 voters during the 2012 Election season.
