Mr. Porrata served in the Boards of The Dance Palace Community Center, The
Inverness Association - Point Reyes National Seashore Association - First Latino
trustee for Shoreline Unified School District. Presently, he is serving as Chair of the
Tomales Bay Watershed Council. First Latino Trustee at the Marin Community
Foundation. Recipient of: The Citizen of The Year Award from the Point Reyes
Business Association for his involvement in meeting a host of community needs in
West Marin in 1994, The Peter Behr Memorial Award for Stewardship of the Land from
the Environmental Action Committee of West Marin in 1999, The Fredrik Law Olmsted
Award for Leadership and Vision from the California State Parks Department in 2000
and the Spirit of Marin Award in 2007. In the last 25 years of his career, Carlos worked
with over 17,000 fourth and fifth grade students at Tomales Bay State Park through
his Environmental Living Program based on the local Native American Culture while
instilling environmental stewardship in the process. He is still actively involved in
environmental issues, affordable housing, and issues affecting underserved
communities in the West Marin area and other community needs throughout the
County.
Carlos Porrata holds a BS in Psychology from
the University of Puerto Rico, a Masters Ed in
Counseling from Trenton State College, NJ. He
worked for 5 years as Counselor for the Puerto
Rican Association for Human Development in
New Jersey and has been a resident of West
Marin for the last 30 years.
